Summer Getaway to Brewster

We spend a lot of time on the cape in the summer, and our favorite town is Brewster. There is so much for children - beautiful bay beaches (drive down 6A towards Orleans, and take a left -- each road dead ends at an amazing beach), a great public library, family-friendly restaurants, clean fresh water ponds. While my daughter spends many of her days at pony camp, my son and I explore some of our favorite spots.

Brewster is known for it's extreme high and low tides. This is low tide at Breakwater Beach. It's hard to swim, but great to explore and look for hermit crabs.

I think my guy spent 2 hours on his hermit crab playground!

Paine's Creek is one of our favorites, because there's a river. This is high tide - the water is deep!

What's summer without playing in the mud? Many families love Drummer Boy Park for the expansive playground and huge grass field. Every Sunday there is a great live band concert at 6 PM in the gazebo. But we love taking the trail all the way to this muddy marsh to play and explore!

The windmill at Drummer Boy Park - it's open 1-4 PM on Fridays and Saturdays, and it's worth stopping in! It's a great learning opportunity and fun to climb up to the top!

The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History is worth a visit on a rainy day.

The trails to Wing Island are perfect for a sunny day - be sure to put on lots of sunblock as there is little shade!

We also recommend - The Brewster General Store for basics and treats, Satucket Farm Stand for produce, the Brewster Book Store (particularly when well known authors stop by - Tomie dePaola came this summer), the Brewster Coffee Shop for Breakfast, and Long Pond for swimming!
