Coloring for a Cause

We are dedicating the month of December to simple ways of giving back.  Our kids love the feeling of doing kind things for others but, sometimes these opportunities can be hard to find.  We have found a few fun and easy ideas for kids to volunteer and will share one each week.

This first idea involves coloring pages that can be set out to entertain your kids while you are making dinner or wrapping gifts. A nonprofit organization, called Color a Smile, has printable pages for each season.  Children put their personal art touches on these pages and then you mail them back to Color a Smile.  The drawings benefit "senior citizens, our troops overseas and anyone in need of a smile."

We chose a variety of coloring pages.  Some said "Happy Holidays" and "Peace on Earth", but also "Merry Christmas" and "Happy Chanukah."

My son chose to color the pages that had drawings and my daughter decided to create her own pictures on the pages that were left blank.

Does your family have any traditions for giving back?   Please share!
